Merry Christmas everyone

Amazingly, it is only a year since we thought it would be fun to show It’s a Wonderful Life to a few people in St Joseph’s Hall. And on Saturday afternoon, we finished our first year by doing it all over again to complete our first year as a community cinema.

In the past year, Balerno Village Screen has flourished to become a true Community Cinema in spite of ready access to local multiplexes just a few minutes away. We think that’s because we value the special atmosphere and convenience of the Village Screen. Introducing ‘Norman’

It’s amazing what pops out of the woodwork when you open a community cinema in Balerno. For all of those fans of film shorts, we have a bit of a treat for you in advance of our screening of ‘The Odd Couple’. Cinema across the generations

red balloonWe had a great community night on Monday with the help of Balerno cubs who opened up the cinema to members of Balerno’s Monday Club. The Monday Club is a group of over 55 year old residents who regularly meet up and socialize together. The chosen film was the 1956 classic “The Red Balloon”. Google it for a lifetime’s reading of film school praise, or just take it as it comes – an enchanting film about a young boy’s adventures with a floating red balloon. Tickets for 10/11 May now available

warhorseIn may we will be screening 5 films over the weekend of Friday 10th and Saturday 11th of May. Please follow the links below to reserve tickets or you can also pick up tickets from the Post Office or the Mill Cafe. Friday 10th May – a fundraiser for Ravelrig Riding for the Disabled:

Saturday 11th May:

  • Despicable Me screening at 10am CERT PG Eventbrite -  Despicable Me 10am

  • Singing in the Rain screening at 3pm, CERT NC Eventbrite - Singing in the Rain 3pm (sponsored by Harlaw Hydro)
  • The Odd Couple screening at 7pm, CERT NC Eventbrite - The Odd Couple 7pm

Our screenings are free to attend – we are funded by donations. If you can no longer attend or are unable to get a ticket, please see our tickets page for more information on how to cancel your tickets or be added to our ticket waiting list.

Next Cinema Saturday 11th May

May at Balerno Village Screen is all about rediscovering some popular classics. On Saturday 11th of May we have:

  • 10am Despicable Me – for the kids: When a criminal mastermind uses a trio of orphan girls as pawns for a grand scheme, he finds their love is profoundly changing him for the better.
  • 1pm Some Like It Hot – Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon, George Raft
    When two musicians witness a mob hit, they flee the state in an all female band disguised as women, but further complications set in.
  • 3pm Singing in the Rainsinging in the rainGene Kelly, Donald O’Connor, Debbie Reynolds  – A silent film production company and cast make a difficult transition to sound, sponsored by Harlaw Hydro
  • The Odd Couple – Jack Lemmon, Walter Matthau – Two friends try sharing an apartment, but their ideas of housekeeping and lifestyles are as different as night and day.

Tickets will be made available on Tuesday 16th April on the website, at Balerno Post Office and The Mill café. We look forward to seeing you all again in May.
