Animation workshops 5th and 6th August 2019

Balerno Village Screen in association with Animation Jam is offering a programme of animation workshops on Monday 6th and Tuesday 7th August.

The following sessions will be running at the discounted cost of £6 per participant.

Day 1 – Monday 5th August 2019

Cartoon Mania

10.30am to 12.40 (130 mins)

Come to Animation Jam’s cartoon animation workshop to draw your own 2d creatures and bring them to life with cameras and computers! You could make anything from evil robots, super heroes or even try animating a cartoon of yourself! Your imagination is the only limit! All your films are put online…..forever!

This workshop is suitable for ages 7-12 years. Book online via Eventbrite.

Plasticine Creature animation

1.50pm to 4pm (130 mins)

Animation Jam presents a fun packed introduction to the world of 3D animation. Make your own plasticine characters and bring them to life in your own animated film. Team up with other creatures to see what crazy stories come up, and watch your films online. Weird animals, comical super heroes, talking fruit; the only limit is your imagination!

This workshop is suitable for ages 7-12 years. Book online via Eventbrite.

Day 2 – Tuesday 6th August 2019

3D Animation in 2D

10.30am to 12.40 (130 mins)

Animate in plasticine but with a twist. As plasticine creatures sometimes fall over (lots!) we’ll turn the camera around and film them from above. Join others and make flat plasticine critters that can easily defy gravity and find great ways to do special effects with plasticine.

This workshop is suitable for ages 7-12 years. Book online via Eventbrite.

Toys  Alive Animation

1.50pm to 4pm (130 mins)

Whether it’s a toy robot firing lasers, cars racing with Lego or a furry cat drinking some milk, we’ll help you bring your own toys to life with animation. Animation Jam will give you extra bits and show you how to make quick special effects on your films. Bring along a small-ish toy (like 5-15cm) you want to animate (it’s best if they can stand up by themselves too!)

This workshop is suitable for ages 7-12 years. Book online via Eventbrite

Sad News: Louise Duncan

We are all deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Louise Duncan on Tuesday.

Louise was keen that the church reach out to the community.  She made it possible for BVS to exist.  She backed us 100% in our efforts to provide a community cinema that included people of all faiths and none. We would not be here without her. Aside from her religious and pastoral work of which others will no doubt speak, I would also like to point out that of the many clergy men and women I have met over the years she was the all time best dancer. I doubt very much whether I will meet someone like her again.

Thank you Louise you will be hugely missed.
From Martin and the team at BVS.

The funeral is at 1pm on Saturday 28th Feb at the church and halls, then onto the High School concourse for the wake. All are welcome including kids.

Sad news – Derek Charman

Everybody who has been part of the BVS story will share our shock and sadness at the sudden death of Derek Charman. A central figure in all site operations, Derek provided huge amounts of technical guidance and advice to BVS and along with his church officers oversaw many of our screening weekends. Derek was instrumental in the design and procurement of all our movie infrastructure and we will miss his problem solving and solid delivery keenly: he loved to crack on and get things done and was a great influence on the establishment of the Village Screen. We used to joke that we’d get him in a BVS volunteers T-shirt one day, but in truth he’d thrown himself into our frenetic ‘all hands on deck ‘project from the very start.

From everyone at Balerno Village Screen
