Classic Movie Weekend review

bvsmayAnother Classic weekend of film gold in Balerno kicked off on Friday night with a sold out charity screening of War Horse in aid of Ravelrig Riding for The Disabled. An appreciative audience remained engrossed in this serious feature. At the end when one young Lad was leaving, he remarked, “Look it’s still light“. An indication of how the movies can draw you in and of course that the nights are also fair drawing out.

Next morning we screened Despicable Me. There was a great atmosphere for this children’s matinee with at least one volunteer finding it had brought a tear to his glass eye. Although we are flattered that you trust us to look after your weans, please remember that children under 12 should be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Next due to technical difficulties with the DVD of Some Like It Hot, a small but loyal band were happy to watch Some Like It Hugo? Apparently cross dressing is not as popular in Balerno as it used to be?

Our third feature of the day was the all time greatest musical film ever made. Singin’ In The Rain was belting out of the Ogston Hall and the connoisseurs of cinema who constitute our clientele all thought it was braw.

bvsmay2Last but not least a hugely appreciative audience laughed their socks off at local man Craig Henderson’s short film Norman which was an excellent companion piece to the feature attraction The Odd Couple. Somehow the jokes in this 43 year old film remained fresh and watching the movie on the big screen was fantastic.

Thanks again to everyone who came along (some folk several times). Without the audience the Village Screen could not exist.

We will be back in June, but maybe not with as many as six films as we are a wee bit tired after our Classic Movie Weekend Extravaganza.
