The Man from U.N.C.L.E. screening 8pm Friday 26 Feb

In the 1960s with the Cold War in play, CIA agent Napoleon Solo successfully helps Gaby Teller defect to West Germany despite the intimidating opposition of KGB agent Illya Kuryakin. Later, all three unexpectedly find themselves working together in a joint mission to stop a private criminal organization from using Gaby’s father’s scientific expertise to construct their own nuclear bomb. Through clenched teeth and stylish poise, all three must find a way to cooperate for the sake of world peace, even as they each pursue their own agendas.

Karun screening 6.30pm on Friday 26 Feb

janaparThose regulars to Balerno Village Screen may remember back to June 2013 when we had the pleasure of screening Tom Allen’s adventure film Janapar.

Tom has been off again on his adventures & we are very lucky to have him back this month to introduce Karun. In his latest adventure he teams up with Leon McCarron to follow Iran’s longest river, aiming to go beyond the politics and showcase the culture and geography of this misunderstood nation. But they soon begin to wonder if they’ve bitten off more than they can chew…

Tom will introduce the film and be on hand afterwards to host a question and answer about the trip.

The Martian screening 7.30pm Saturday 27 Feb

During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring the Martian home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible, rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney’s safe return.

Big Hero 6 screening 2.30pm Saturday 27 Feb

From Walt Disney Animation Studios, the team behind “Frozen” and “Wreck-It Ralph,” comes Big Hero 6, an action-packed comedy-adventure about the special bond that develops between Baymax, a plus-sized inflatable robot, and prodigy Hiro Hamada.

When a devastating event befalls the city of San Fransokyo and catapults Hiro into the midst of danger, he turns to Baymax and his close friends adrenaline junkie Go Go Tomago, neatnik Wasabi, chemistry whiz Honey Lemon and fanboy Fred. Determined to uncover the mystery, Hiro transforms his friends into a band of high-tech heroes called Big Hero 6.
