October at BVS takes a different direction to our normal collection of films. The focus is the documentary Resilience: the biology of stress & the science of hope – a film by James Redford.
The film is about people and ultimately our ability to deal (or not deal) with stress. The film chronicles the birth of a movement among paediatricians, therapists, educators, crime fighters and communities, who are using cutting-edge biological science to disrupt cycles of violence, addiction and disease. And the focus for much of this is on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs).
The screening will be followed by a discussion with leading Scottish Experts on Trauma: Graham Goulden, former Chief Inspector at the Violence Reduction Unit, Police Scotland, lead on MVP for school’s and Director of Cultivating Minds & Kevin Neary, Founder of Aid & Abet and Trauma Informed Activist.
