Our evening film is the delightful Sing Street, with pre film music and net proceeds going to the Teenage Cancer Trust. The film is about a boy growing up in Dublin during the 1980s who escapes his strained family life by starting a band to impress the mysterious girl he likes.

This year the pupils want to do all they can to support Teenage Cancer Trust, a wonderful charity that provides fantastic care for young people with cancer and their loved ones.  The net proceeds from your donations will be given to this charity.
Plus… we are delighted that Balerno High School pupil and super talented musician Nate Collins will be coming along to support the night by performing a few songs before the film begins.

On Saturday afternoon we start with Sing. In a town with no humans, just animals, a koala named Buster Moon realizes he will soon lose his theater if he cannot turn his luck around. He comes up with a plan to host a singing competition, where the winner will receive $100,000. Will this be enough to return his theater to glory?

Love & Mercy screening 7.30pm on Saturday 1st October

Love & Mercy is screening as part of the Balerno Music Festival. And continuing the music theme for October we are delighted to be joined by young singer/songwriter Gus Harrower who will be playing live before the film.   Gus won the Song Academy Young Songwriter 2016 (and we think he is brilliant too).

The film is about Brian Wilson (the creative soul of the Beach Boys) but he paid a heavy price for his talent. That especially shows during his peak artistic years in the 1960s, as his inner demons and obsessions trying to please his abusive father drive him to a mental breakdown that would plague him for years. In the 1980s, with Brian barely functional under the domination of the unscrupulous Dr. Landy, Brian meets and falls in love with Melinda Ledbetter. As their relationship grows, she observes Brian’s crippling subservience to the abusive psychotherapist with growing alarm. Ultimately, she must take action with a love willing to stand up to oppression she cannot ignore.
